Captain Bill Divens Salmon King Lodge

At the tender age of four, Bill Divens caught his first native brook trout on a remote stream in the hills of Pennsylvania and has been passionately pursuing trout and salmon in Alaska, Oregon, Canada, and California since. A Silicon Valley high tech executive in his former life, Divens is now a licensed California and Oregon guide, holds a USCG Captain’s license and is an IGFA Certified Captain. He fishes half the year on the Sacramento River and Shasta Lake in Northern California and the other half on the Rogue River in Gold Beach, Oregon.

Divens and his wife, Julie, own and operate Salmon King Lodge in Red Bluff, California. Situated in the heart of the best trout, steelhead and salmon fishing on the Sacramento River, Divens spends the early spring running wild rainbow trout and steelhead trips on the Sacramento for both fly and conventional anglers. The rest of the year, he targets salmon on the Rogue, Sacramento and Lake Shasta.

April and May find Bill on the lower Rogue River near Gold Beach, OR putting anglers on the storied Rogue spring salmon. When the Rogue Springer run slows, Divens returns to their Northern California lodge to fish the peak of the Shasta Lake landlocked king salmon season in June and early July. When temperatures soar in the Upper Sacramento Valley, the Divens’ retreat to their home on the banks of the Rogue River near Gold Beach, Oregon to guide king and silver salmon on the lower Rogue July – October. He finishes off the year trophy fishing the late fall run of Sacramento River king salmon.

A highly respectable Northern California guide, Divens is no stranger to media attention. His success has earned him constant coverage in Western Outdoor News as well as mentions in the Red Bluff Daily News, Chico News and Review, Redding Record Searchlight, Fish Sniffer and Enjoy Magazine. He’s also featured on Sep Hendrickson’s California Sportsman radio show and on TV with Tom Steinstra’s The Great Outdoors.

Lake Effect Team Photo

Captain Tony Zadonia Team Lake Effect

Lake Effect Fishing Team is composed of the Great Lakes fishing trifecta Tony Zadonia, Kendra Zadonia, and Greg Gianino.  All 3 individuals have extensive knowledge of the Great Lakes fishing not only in Michigan but in the many states that surround these significant bodies of water.  Tony a contributing writer for Salmon Trout Steelheader and Great Lakes Angler Magazine, grew up just a few miles from the shores of Saginaw Bay.  Tony cut his teeth at an early age on the big water, fishing Walleye, Salmon, and Trout on Saginaw Bay as well as Lake Huron.

Tony’s wife Kendra who grew up inland lake fishing in the Fenton area, wasted no time in getting out on the big water once she met Tony.  Kendra not only keeps the team on the fish by running the boat on the troll, be she can also out-fish most male anglers that step on board.
Tony and Kendra met Greg back in 2010 and became great friends!  Greg, who grew up just a few miles from the shores of Lake Erie, has a passion for the Big Water and spent most of his childhood fishing walleye and perch both competitively and for leisure. Not only is Greg an essential part of the Lake Effect Team, but he also runs his own boat “After Five” and often helps out on a few of the premier sport fishing charters out of Ludington on Lake Michigan when not on his own vessel.
Team Lake Effect’s tournament portfolio includes multiple top 5 finishes over the past 7 years in both host tournaments as well as the 333 division on Lake Michigan’s Tournament Trail.  The team has also secured a spot on the TV series Salmon Showdown, which airs on the Pursuit Channel.

My grandfather, Leo McElroy, was a fishing and hunting guide in Oregon City Oregon. He started when he graduated high school in 1952. I have fished small creeks, for Cutthroat Trout, Rivers, Bay’s and the Ocean since I was very young. I spent the last 17yrs juggling a logging career and fishing. I would quit most every job when a fishing season would roll around. Fishing is my true passion. I started my business, Tidewater Adventures, after getting into a tree falling accident. I am a family man. I have three kids and a wife. I love nothing more than taking people out on the water. I enjoy experiencing the sights, smells, and joy of fishing and all other walks of life, on the water in the Pacific Northwest. Kids are my favorite Clients. They go on my boat for free. Kids are the next generation to care about fishing and all other activities on the water. I feel if we don’t pass our knowledge on to them as soon as possible, our knowledge will be lost. In return, we will leave no one to care about anything water related. I pride my self on being a well-rounded fisherman. I will fish for anything that swims. I can produce fish in the Ocean, Bay’s and Rivers and am experienced in all of them. The only regret I have of being a fishing guide is that I should have done it sooner in life.
